On 25 September 2025, the Catholic University of Ávila (UCAV), in cooperation with Łódź University of Technology (TUL), organised an international workshop entitled "Circular Economy and New Technologies Applied to the Textile Sector" within the framework of the AIdesignTEX project, funded by the European Union.
The workshop was led by Prof. Ricardo Reier, Director of Ávila Business School (UCAV), as the main organiser.
The conference programme was designed as a comprehensive overview of key issues related to the implementation of circular economy principles and new technologies in the textile sector. The event opened with an introductory session by Prof. Ricardo Reier, who outlined the objectives of the conference and highlighted the importance of international cooperation in the transformation of the textile industry.
Subsequent sessions focused on new technologies and educational drivers of the circular economy, with particular emphasis on integrating circular economy concepts into academic curricula and professional training. The programme then addressed textile innovations at the intersection of circular economy and healthcare, demonstrating how material solutions can combine functionality, sustainability, and societal impact.
An important part of the agenda was dedicated to case studies, including a comparative analysis of consumer attitudes toward the textile industry in Poland and Spain, as well as presentations on circular economy practices in rural regions of Spain. The role of social networks and second-hand marketplaces—such as Vinted, Wallapop, and Humana—was also explored as a driver for more sustainable fashion consumption patterns.
The afternoon sessions concentrated on the application of professional software and advanced technologies in textile industry management, highlighting the growing importance of digital tools, data-driven decision-making, and technological innovation in supporting the transition toward circularity. The programme concluded with a closing session summarising key insights and reinforcing the value of continued collaboration between academia, industry, and society in advancing a more sustainable textile sector.
